An overview about the quality of mold manufacturing in Vietnam
The explosion of the revolution in technology of all countries over the world during the past years has caused a great impact on the Vietnamese industry. Especially towards the mold manufacturing industry, when Information Technology is gradually being widely used in countries with developed economies such as the United States, South Korea, Japan, etc., there is a rapid transformation from the traditional manufacturing process to high-tech manufacturing. This fact has created a huge barrier that make quality of the molds produced in our country hard to compete with the one in other countries of the same region.
1. An overview about the quality of mold manufacturing in our country compared to other countries of the same region
When comparing the mold manufacturing process in Vietnam with advanced countries in Asia, there are still many drawbacks of this industry in our country. Almost all advanced countries now apply the open link model, helping enterprises have more conditions to invest more intensively and automate their manufacturing process.
Moreover, the application of CNC high technology has contributed a lot to improve the quality of products as well as maximize the working capacity of the devices of these countries. Typically in Taiwan, their mold quality is always evaluated to meet the international standards because they always update and apply the latest technology for their manufacturing process. The close link in manufacturing process among enterprises of the same sector is also one of the factors that help Taiwan have good condition to form design centers and mold manufacturing assemblies for each industrial sector. This advantage not only helps this country’s mold industry to improve productivity and product quality as well as to focus on investing in renewing equipment and technology, but also help them avoid investing on overlapping products and minimize equipment depreciation expense in the price of mold products on the market.
Meanwhile, our enterprises are mostly closed with no coordination or close cooperation with each other to go into the intensive design and manufacturing process, leading to the situation of investment being overlapped and inconsistent about quality in the products and categories.
Besides, due to the limited capacity to design and manufacture, it is difficult to produce products with high technical requirements to meet the domestic market as well as to compete in the foreign market. Therefore, most of the products that require such high technology must be imported under the form of semi-finished products or imported molds directly from abroad to manufacture.
In addition, the fact that the technology transfer is still dispersed and the manufacturing and design manpower is not trained in depth is one of the main reasons for the limited manufacturing efficiency and the inconsistent finished products.
2. Development orientation of the industry
With the current situation of mold quality which is not very good in our country, to catch up with the trend of integration and international economic cooperation, Vietnam should have the right and appropriate solutions as it is the only way to help the domestic mold industry survive and develop sustainably.
First of all, the Government needs to have policies to support domestic enterprises to gradually eliminate the closed and backward manufacturing in order to ensure the manufacturing of high quality molds and change the cost of the products. Furthermore, the Association of molding manufacturing should be established so that enterprises can meet and exchange domestic and international information and promote their image to international partners.
At the same time, information on guidelines, policies, management mechanisms, advanced technologies and equipment or information on setting up and unifying industry standards and safety standards for the mold industry should also be clearly provided by state management agencies. Hence, the enterprises can grasp all matters related to the industry in the most accurate and quickest way. Accordingly, they have the basis to overcome the remaining weaknesses to improve their productivity and quality of molds manufacturing.
Hopefully with such overview as well as new development orientation for the mold industry in Vietnam, this potential industry will have a great transformation in the domestic market and create the firm foundation to reach out to the global market.
