Japan pledges 1 billion US Dollars ODA to Vietnam
Vietnam will receive a development aid ODA worth 1 billion US dollars to support for seven projects in energy, infrastructure, education and environment.
The outstanding projects are Thai Binh power plant project, two electric power supply system project for Dong Nai province in the South and Ha Long city in the North. The other projects include North South highway – connecting Ben Luc, Long An and Long Thanh, a project to improve adaptive capacity to cope with climate change, and a project to improve training and scientific research at Can Tho University.
Japan has provided ODA to Vietnam in 20 years, their support not only for project about construct infrastructure to developing transport system, but also for the other fields such as education.
Since 1992, Japan’s government has provided ODA worth total 2.5 thousand billion yens, equivalent to 20.9 billion US dollars to Vietnam. In recent years, Vietnam has received the most amount of Japan’s ODA fund, which means the very high expectations of Japan on Vietnam – a market, a manufacturing center, and a counterpoise to China.
